WBO world welterweight boxing champion Manny Pacquiao opened his first gym in Tokyo and later spoke at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on Saturday.

The star fighter who is also a Philippines senator said he was waiting for the next Manny Pacquiao to come from Japan as many Japanese had the same build as him and he hoped they would become more passionate about the sport that helped him escape poverty.

Pacquiao said he was willing to help develop and train Japanese boxers.

Japanese are disciplined and hardworking so it’s not difficult to produce a Japanese version of Manny Pacquiao, he said.
