Firefighters and SPCA staff rescued a stray female dog trapped under pipes on a hillside near a dormitory on the University of Hong Kong campus early on Tuesday morning, local media reported.

At 3am, the dog was heard barking after she had slipped 10 feet down the hillside and got trapped under pipes near St John’s College at HKU, Apple Daily reported.

Dormitory staff called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), with a vet and nurse arriving at 5am. Firefighters also arrived.

The frightened dog was given an anaesthetic injection to prevent it from biting rescuers, the Headline Daily reported.

At 6am, firefighters pulled the pipes with wires so the dog could be successfully freed. The animal had no microchip and was treated at the SPCA clinic.
