Last month’s visit from the commander of Ukraine’s navy to Turkey highlighted the burgeoning defense ties and military cooperation relationship between the two countries, reports Al-Monitor.

High-level defense industry visits between the two Black Sea-straddling nations have become frequent, with defense industry projects touching on fields including satellite technology, warships and navigation systems, radars, phased space rockets and ballistic missile systems, long-range ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles.

For its part, Turkey is eager to build a close cooperative relationship to ensure security in the region’s waters, though Ukraine has a long way to go to develop its navy.

Ukraine is also an avenue for military technology transfer to Turkey that has been interrupted by political disagreements with the US and Europe.
