Police are looking for an Egyptian man accused of brutally beating his wife and seven-year-old daughter after a family dispute in Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui.

A 40-year-old Egyptian woman, who is a torture claimant and has permission to remain in Hong Kong, sought help from a voluntary service center in Chungking Mansions at 11am on Monday, Oriental Daily reported. The social worker reported a suspected domestic violence case to the police.

Police arrived at the family’s home in Chungking Mansions, which is well-known in the city as one of the cheapest sources of accommodation, but the husband had already left.

The woman and her daughter both complained they had headaches and were accompanied by an interpreter to the hospital. The wife had minor wrist injuries.

The Yau Tsim District crime unit will investigate the assault case.
