Speaking after an electoral debacle for her National Front party on Sunday, Marine Le Pen acknowledged the sorry showing.

“Its a scandal that our party that picked 7.6 million votes in the first round of the presidential election and three million more in the second round, cannot form a group in the French parliament,” Le Pen was quoted by The Local as saying.

Her far-right populist party was at one point expected to win as many as 50 seats, but managed only 8 out of 577 in France’s National Assembly.

Le Pen did, however, win a seat for herself, after being defeated handily by the pro-EU Emanuel Macron in the recent presidential elections.
