Mumbai residents have a new ride-hailing option.

A new app for summoning its famous kaali-peeli (black-and-yellow) cabs,  Amachi (Our) Drive, was launched on Thursday, according to media reports. It is similar to the ones used by ride-aggregators such as Ola and Uber.

Developed by Sun Telematics Private Limited, the app will enable passengers to get cabs at their doorstep without any surge in pricing and will display the estimated fare details. After passengers book a ride, a one-time password will be sent via SMS. The app also features a panic button for emergencies.

Available on Android as well as IOS, the app supports English and around 20 Indian languages.

Ashutosh Vaidya, head of operations at Sun Telematics, was quoted as saying, “All taxi drivers have been given proper training in the use of this app. We will also give them behavioral training soon.”

Over 2,000 cabbies affiliated with the Mumbai Taximen’s Union and Mumbai Taxi Association are participating in the scheme.
