Mumbai’s iconic Taj Mahal Palace has become the first building in India to acquire intellectual property rights protection for its architectural design. It has been trademarked.

Located in Colaba, Mumbai, the hotel, which opened in 1903, gained the rights to the commercial use of the image of its dome and exterior.

“For more than a century, the Taj dome has anchored the Mumbai skyline…We are very proud to recognize its important role as a symbol of Mumbai’s people and its past through the trademark,” PTI quoted a hotel representative as saying.
