A 30-year-old woman had her arms and legs burnt after a dehumidifier caught fire in an apartment on 28 Elgin Street in Central in Hong Kong Island on Monday morning.

At 2am, dark smoke was seen coming out of an apartment on the 19th floor of the Million City building, Oriental Daily reported. Nearby residents call the police, who arrived swiftly and evacuated dozens of residents.

Firemen put out the fire at the apartment. A woman, blackened with smoke, was sent to hospital with burns to her arms and legs.

Firemen said initial investigations had found the fire was caused by a short-circuiting dehumidifier, Ming Pao reported. Police ruled out any foul play and did not disclose the nationality of the woman.
