A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking his father with a cleaver on Thursday in Sheung Shui, in Hong Kong’s New Territories.

Wen Wi Po reports that the incident happened at a flat on the 10th floor of Ching Hin House at Ching Ho Estate in Sheung Shui. A family of three – the suspect, surnamed Lam, and his 53-year-old father and 42-year-old mother – have resided there for about ten years.

At 6am, the suspect, who has been receiving psychiatric treatment, grabbed a cleaver in the kitchen and attacked his father, who had just woken up and come out of his bedroom. He sustained injuries to his head, face and neck.

Lam’s mother heard the noise and saw that her husband and son were fighting. She tried to stop them but was also injured on her head, neck and back.

Her husband escaped and ran to the lobby from the tenth floor for help. Security guards immediately called the police.

When police arrived, they rescued the injured mother from the flat and arrested the suspect, who told the police that he hates his father very much, Oriental Daily reported.

All three were sent to North District Hospital for medical treatment. Lam’s parents were said to be in a serious condition. Lam was later sent to Castle Peak Hospital for further tests.
