The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on its website on Monday night that Lu Wei, the former deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party discipline, Yicai.com reported.

Lu is the first ministerial-level official who has been investigated following the conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the CPC.

Lu, 57, acted as the cyberspace administration chief as well as the deputy director of State Council Information Office from 2013 to 2014.

Before he was appointed as the deputy mayor of Beijing in 2011, Lu was the secretary-general of Xinhua new agency, the mouthpiece of the Party.
