A six-year-old girl was hit by a taxi while waiting to cross the road with a domestic worker in Kwai Chung in the New Territories on Friday.

The girl surnamed Chan and her Filipino domestic worker were waiting to cross the road on a zebra crossing in front of the Lai King Disciplined Services Quarters at 12:24pm, Hong Kong Commercial Daily reported.

A 74-year-old taxi driver surnamed Cheung drove along Ling Chi Ling Road – but the taxi was too close to the pavement where the girl and her domestic worker stood, the Oriental Daily reported.

The girl was hit by the left-side rearview mirror and fell down.

The maid immediately called the police and paramedics sent the girl, who stayed conscious, to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
