A 19-year-old woman from Greece was arrested for alleged drug trafficking on Monday when she arrived at Hong Kong airport.
Customs officers seized about 2.6 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of HK$2.4 million (US$307,225) after the woman flew in from Ethiopia, a government release reported.
At customs clearance, they found a packet of suspected cocaine inside a false compartment in the woman’s hand-carried rucksack. She was arrested and due to appear at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday.
It was understood the Greek woman is a model. She flew from western Europe to Ethiopia and stayed there a few days before flying to Hong Kong, Apple Daily reported.
Her arrest is the fourth illegal drug-trafficking case in a week that customs officers have found at the airport. The total seized drugs are worth more than HK$5 million and officers believe they were sent for local consumption, Sing Pao reported.
Customs are investigating any connection among the four smuggling cases.
