Hong Kong police have arrested a 60-year-old man who allegedly picked up a handbag containing HK$90,000 (US$11,500) in cash that a woman had dropped in a shopping mall in Kowloon on Tuesday.

That afternoon, a 31-year-old dealer in used mobile phones dropped her handbag at Telford Plaza, a shopping center in Kowloon Bay, and then was unable to find it. She reported the loss to the police immediately.

After investigating surveillance-camera footage, police observed that a man who had been walking behind the woman had picked up the handbag.

He was arrested on Wednesday for suspected theft. However, the amount of cash police officers retrieved from the man was not confirmed.
