The Senate of the Philippines has approved a bill mandating the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to publish a handbook for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

On Tuesday, the senate approved Senate Bill No. 192, also known as the Handbook for OFWs Act of 2016, on its second reading.

The bill was prepared and filed by senator Manny Pacquiao on June 30, 2016.

Pacquiao said he hopes the handbook will help to end the problem of human trafficking by making OFWs aware of their rights and responsibilities.

If the bill is approved by both the senate and congress on its third reading, it will be forwarded to the president of the Philippines for his approval.

There are currently about 10 million OFWs deployed across the globe.
