A domestic worker suffered serious head injuries when the Toyota minivan in which she was a passenger collided with an Audi sedan at an intersection in Singapore on Friday night.
Four others in the van including the driver were also injured but less seriously. The badly injured maid remained in an intensive care unit.
The accident occurred in Clementi, in Singapore’s West Region, at 9:10pm on Friday at the junction of Ulu Pandan Road and Holland Road, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.
The black Audi sedan – whose driver was in his 20s – reportedly crashed into the left rear of the Toyota as the minivan was making a right turn into Holland Road.
The Toyota – which was carrying an elderly couple and two domestic helpers – spun three times before coming to a halt, according to a 23-year-old commuter who alighted from a public bus and rushed to the scene.
One of the maids was lying on a grass patch after the crash, breathing rapidly and bleeding from her head, while the other maid squatted next to her.
The elderly man was too shocked to respond after the collision, while his wife had rib fractures. Both were reportedly in their 70s.
The minivan’s private-hire driver suffered minor injuries. All five were sent to the National University Hospital for treatment.
A police investigation is attempting to determine the cause of the accident.
