Filipinos should be wary of “inflated and inaccurate” reports claiming the availability of high-paying jobs for mushroom pickers in Canada, according to Philippine government agencies.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned that no accredited employment agencies were offering mushroom-picking jobs and there were no such job offers for Filipinos in Canada, GMA News reported.

According to The Filipino Times, there have been reports online that 700 mushroom pickers are needed in Canada and the monthly salary is 150,000 pesos (US$2,900). However, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Toronto said reports of such lucrative pay were “inflated and inaccurate.”

POLO-Toronto also pointed out that the Canadian government prioritized hiring of local workers over foreign migrants.

The Philippine Embassy in Canada urged job seekers to follow the procedures for deployment of migrant workers. Ambassador Petronila Garcia urged Filipinos to coordinate with POEA to determine legitimate job opportunities available abroad.
