A Filipino domestic worker in Dubai bled to death after allegedly taking a pill to abort her unborn child. On July 29, Angel Pauya Trasadas, 33, who had been in the United Arab Emirates since 2013, was working as a part-time cleaner at Dubai International City when she started bleeding profusely, Gulf News reported on Sunday.

Trasadas died due to the large amount of blood loss. According to Trasadas’ friend, who did not disclose her name, Trasadas was pregnant and wanted to end her pregnancy as she could not support the baby as she had two children in the Philippines.

The friend said she tried convincing Trasadas, who had overstayed and had no visa since 2016, not to abort the baby and wait for the amnesty period on August 1 for her to either get a visa or return to the Philippines.

Peter Pauya, Trasadas’ cousin, said their family lost contact with Trasadas in 2013 and found out about her death on social media. Pauya said the family had contacted the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs for assistance to have Trasadas’ remains repatriated.

Philippine Consul-General Paul Raymund Cortes said Trasadas’ remains can only be repatriated once the police investigation is finished.
