A Filipino teenager received a standing ovation from the audience and the judges during her audition at the UK talent show X Factor UK.
Maria “Maureen” Laroco, a 17-year-old student, sang a cover of Prince’s 1984 hit Purple Rain, which had the audience and judges on their feet.
Laroco told the audience she flew to the UK from the Philippines, only her third time on a plane, Rappler reported.
“Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be an international superstar. I want to be big. That’s why I’m doing this, because I love to do it and this is my dream,” Laroco said.
Laroco received praises from the judges for her powerhouse performance. Judge Louis Tomlinson said her performance was “absolutely incredible” and lauded her singing ability at a young age.
In 2014, Laroco appeared in the first season of singing competition “The Voice Kids Philippines,” where she was mentored by renowned singer Lea Salonga. However, Laroco was eliminated in the show’s 11th episode.
