Police in Hong Kong are looking for a thief who was captured by a CCTV camera in Yuen Long in the New Territories stealing 12 boxes of mooncakes from a bakery.

At 5pm on Wednesday, a member of staff at Hang Heung Bakery in Yuen Long discovered 12 boxes of mooncakes were missing. The boxes retail for HK$215 (US$27) each, Sing Tao Daily reported.

After checking surveillance camera footage, they saw that a middle-aged man appeared in the shop at around 4pm, grabbed a carton containing 12 boxes of mooncakes, and walked out unseen by staff, who were busy dealing with customers.

The theft took only 40 seconds.

One of the staff recognized the suspect and said he had attempted to steal mooncakes last Saturday, but failed.

Mid-Autumn Festival this year will take place on September 24. Chinese people like to offer mooncakes to friends and family to mark the festival.
