The ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) began their 17th meeting on October 20 in Hanoi.
The ASEAN Secretariat and representatives from 10 ASEAN countries gathered at the meeting on Saturday, marking the second session this year, Viet Nam News reported.
The latest meeting followed up on issues discussed at the previous meeting and also did a review of projects under ACWC’s Work Plan 2016-20.
Numerous important projects have been completed. For instance, the ASEAN Forum on Women’s Economic Empowerment, which was held in Singapore in August, and the 2017 ASEAN Conference on Juvenile Justice Reform held in May in Thailand.
Updates on the Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence Against Women (RPA-EVAW) were also discussed.
The ACWC mainly develops policies and programs to safeguard the rights of women and children in the ASEAN community. Many regional workshops, training sessions and other educational projects have been implemented to build a common understanding about gender issues in the region.
