After a cargo vessel was stranded without power in stormy conditions off Taiwan’s Taoyuan coast on Thursday night, the captain and his twelve crew had to be rescued by helicopter.

The general cargo carrier Zhen-Feng, registered in Honduras, was about one nautical mile off the coast of Taoyuan when it became stranded without power in heavy seas at around 8:37pm, The Liberty Times reported.

The Coast Guard Administration received an emergency call for help from the captain, explaining that the vessel was at risk of capsizing because of water flooding the engine room.

Due to adverse sea conditions, rescue vessels were forced to stand by while a helicopter was called in.

The helicopter arrived and proceeded to airlift the ship’s entire crew to safety. The rescue mission was accomplished in under one hour, and no injuries were reported.
