An 11-year-old Filipino gymnast died after she was hit by a car in Greater Manchester, England. At around 3:30pm on October 1, Marianne Haboc was on her way to school in the town of Rochdale when the accident happened. Despite attempts by paramedics to save her, she died on the spot, Rappler reported.

Police arrested a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. However, the woman was later released pending further investigation.

Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo said the Philippine Embassy in London had reached out to the girl’s family and was not coordinating with local authorities or the Filipino community for developments on the case.

“The embassy sends its deepest condolences to Marianne’s family. We encourage the Filipino community in the United Kingdom to reach out to the Haboc family to offer comfort and support to the family in these difficult times,” Lagdameo said.
