A Filipino migrant worker and his wife were arrested after being caught trying to sell illegal drugs to undercover police in Cavite in the Philippines.
At 5am on Monday, Gerald Gonzales, 44 and his wife Jonie, 43, tried to sell drugs worth 500 pesos to a buyer, who was actually a police officer conducting a buy-bust operation in Kawit, Cavite, just south of Manila, the Philippine Star reported.
The drug-bust was conducted by the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
The couple was arrested after they made the transaction with the undercover cop. The police confiscated four packets of suspected methamphetamine, a .38 caliber gun and a vehicle.
In the Philippines, the penalty for selling or trading illegal drugs is a jail term between 12 to 20 years and a fine ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 pesos (US$1,853 to $9,266).
