A Filipino man who allegedly raped his daughter in 2015 was arrested in Binondo, Manila in the Philippines.

In 2015, Leonardo Catalan allegedly raped his then 13-year-old daughter identified as Girlie in their home in Pasig City. After the incident, Catalan left home and moved to Manila, The Manila Times reported.

On Thursday evening, Catalan, now 54, was arrested by the Eastern Police District mobile force battalion intelligence operatives in Binondo, Manila. An arrest warrant had been issued by the Pasig Regional Trial Court for qualified rape.

The girl was temporarily placed in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and was later released to her mother, who is an overseas Filipino worker in Lebanon. The girl’s mother returned to the Philippines after she was informed of the incident.

In the Philippines, a convicted rapist, when the victim is under 18 years of age and/or the attacker’s child, is liable to the death penalty.
