Two Filipina domestic workers have appeared in separate courts in Hong Kong facing charges of ill-treating or assaulting children in their care. However, the details in both cases were not read out in the courts, sunwebhk.com reported.

Merlyn Ando pleaded not guilty before Shatin Magistrate Wong Sze-lai on Thursday. She had been held without bail since May this year and will face the trail in January next year.

Local media reported she was accused by her employer of mixing detergent in milk for the child she was caring for. The reports said the mother found a plastic container of powdered detergent next to a can of infant formula that was being fed to the baby.

A second domestic helper, Eden Inabiohan, appeared on Friday before Tuen Mun Magistrate Ivy Chui Yee-mei for an update on her case. Inabiohan, who is out on bail, was charged with assaulting her young ward.

Magistrate Chui adjourned the case until December 24 at the request of the prosecution and extended her bail.
