A Filipino family was among the thousands who lost their homes in the wildfires ravaging the US state of California. The Philippines’ consul to San Francisco, Henry Bensurto Jr, said their home in the town of Paradise was hit by the fire but the family was safe.
The family is temporarily taking refuge in Chico, a city near Paradise that is serving as an evacuation area for affected residents, GMA News reported.
“They are safe in terms of physical health but their house in Paradise was affected. However, Filipinos are always resilient and we all pray for them,” Bensurto said.
He said 25,000 residents of Paradise had been affected by the wildfire that has now lasted for two weeks. The consulate is still monitoring for other Filipinos affected by the disaster.
Bensurto said the wildfire was expected to be totally extinguished soon. Monitoring of the situation, as well as search and retrieval operations, is ongoing.
