Three Indonesian migrant workers took top awards at a Mandarin speech contest that was recently held in the Taiwanese capital Taipei.

Dessy Riana took first place, while Ucik Prasetyaningsih and Herpianti Togatorop won second and third places respectively. Each received a trophy and cash prizes, Antara News reported.

The three workers won from a field of over 50 entrants, all foreign workers, from nations including Vietnam and the Philippines.

Riana, who is a nurse and has been working in Taiwan for eight years, delivered a speech entitled “My Village” in which she described the mutual assimilation of Indonesian and Chinese cultures in Palembang, South Sumatra.

Riana received a cash prize of NT$20,000 (US$648), while Prasetyaningsih received NT$15,000 and Togatorop NT$12,000.
