A 52-year-old local woman died on Monday when she became ill after having a Botox injection the day before. Doctor Franklin Li Wang-pong, 86, was arrested on Monday afternoon for allegedly violating the use of dangerous drugs, the Oriental Daily reported

The woman went to a beauty clinic in Grand Center on Humphreys Avenue in Kowloon’s Tsim Sha Tsui for a Botox jab on Sunday, but collapsed while she was undergoing the treatment.

Dr Li reportedly told the police that the woman had visited the beauty clinic many times before. She paid a visit to the clinic on Sunday without an appointment and asked Dr Li to prescribe her some asthma drugs.

She fell unconscious after taking the asthma drugs and the doctor immediately tried to resuscitate her but failed. Dr Li then called police.

During the police investigation, he told police the woman had been given a Botox jab before passing out. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and died on Monday morning.

Dr Li, a veteran plastic surgeon in Hong Kong, was suspended for five months by the Medical Council over the death of a 71-year-old female patient in 2003 when she was undergoing liposuction in his clinic, news website HK01.com reported.
