A Chinese court has granted US telecommunication equipment maker Qualcomm injunctions against Apple, ordering the smartphone maker to immediately cease the import and sale of some iPhones in China.
According to a press release from Qualcomm, the injunction affects nearly all iPhones, but Apple disputes this claim.
From Qualcomm’s statement:
“[The court ordered Apple] to immediately cease infringing upon two Qualcomm patents through the unlicensed importation, sale and offers for sale in China of the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.”
From Apple’s response:
“All iPhone models remain available for our customers in China. Qualcomm is asserting three patents they had never raised before, including one which has already been invalidated. We will pursue all our legal options through the courts.”
Apple says that the ban only covers older models of their flagship device.
Shares of the iPhone maker were down as much as 2% Monday morning. Qualcomm was up 3%.
