A 58-year-old man was rescued after being seriously injured in a a fall during a hike in Sai Kung, the New Territories on Wednesday.
The man surnamed Cheng, said to be an experienced hiker and mountaineer, was walking the MacLehose Trail Section 3 in Sha Kok Mei along with seven friends, Sing Tao Daily reported.
As the group proceeded along a one-kilometer slope littered with small and large boulders near Pyramid Hill in Ma On Shan Country Park, Cheng reportedly lost his balance and fell from a five-meter-high cliff.
He suffered head injuries, bone fractures and was rendered unconscious. The team immediately called the police.
A rescue mission was launched involving police, firemen and government flying services. Cheng was airlifted to the North Lantau Hospital for medical treatment, where he was said to be is in a serious condition.
