A Filipino high school student is in a coma after he was allegedly beaten by three of his schoolmates in Pangasinan, the Philippines, on Tuesday.

Kenneth Langit, 19, a Grade 11 student at Mangaldan National High School, was on his way back to class when he ran into three Grade 12 students at the school gym. Langit’s classmate, who was with him at the time, said one of the students challenged Langit to a fist fight and pushed him, GMA News reported.

Langit fought back but two other students allegedly helped Maramba beat him up. By the time security guards stopped the fight, Langit had collapsed to the ground. He is now in a critical condition at a local hospital.

Authorities are investigating the suspects’ motive, including the possibility that the fight had something to do with a girl. A relative of Langit said the girlfriend of one of the suspects apparently had a crush on Langit.

Police have arrested the three suspects.
