Five Vietnamese men suspected of being gangsters were arrested last week over the shooting death of one man and injuries to another.

The five suspects, Doan Phuong Nam, 21, Pham Ngoc Son, 23, Bui Khac Khanh, 24, Nguyen Van Son, 24, and Nguyen Thanh Binh, 24, were being investigated for murder, intentionally inflicting injury as well as disrupting public order, the police said on March 9, VN Express reported.

On March 6, 22-year-old Phung Quang Huy and Nguyen Quang Linh, 21, were visiting a house in Thanh Hoa Town, Thanh Hoa. A group of men shot the two while they were on a balcony.

Phung was killed on the spot while Nguyen was severely injured.

According to witnesses, the assailants were masked and made their getaway on two motorcycles. Three guns left at the scene were found by police. The five suspects were reportedly part of a gambling and loan shark ring in the area. The hit was thought to be part of a territorial dispute between gangs.

If found guilty of the charges, the five could face the death penalty on the murder charge.
