A 47-year-old Vietnamese domestic worker has been arrested by judiciary police for stealing about 100,000 Macau patacas (US$12,400) from four compatriots in Macau.

Beginning in November last year, the judiciary police had received reports from four victims, all Vietnamese, accusing the suspect of claiming she had a way of wiring money to Vietnam that incurred very low handling fees, Hou Kong Daily reported.

The four women who were taken in by the suspect handed over a total of 95,500 Macau patacas to her in August and September last year.

After she took the money, the suspect used various excuses to drag out the transactions before she broke contact with the victims.

The four victims, who did not know each other, reported the thefts to the police separately.

Police investigators believed that the money had been stolen by the same person. Following further investigations, they arrested the suspect surnamed Vu at her workplace in Ilha Verde on Wednesday.

The suspect admitted that she had collected the money from the victims and claimed that she had given it to another fellow Vietnamese to transfer it to Vietnam. She claimed that that person had disappeared.

The suspect was charged with one count of fraud. The case remains under investigation.
