Official statistics show that Vietnam suffered 4,770 cyber attacks in the first quarter of this year — more than half of the total figure in 2018.
According to the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Center (VNcert) of the Ministry of Information and Communications, some 8,319 cyber attacks were reported in the country last year, VN Express reported.
Director of VNcert, Nguyen Trong Duong, said the two most frequent infringements in the first quarter this year were violations of information security policies, which made up 40% of the cyber attacks, while cases of unauthorized collection of information made up for 39% of these offenses.
Nguyen said there were 124 cases of onsite malicious code attacks, with 2,245 interface breachers and more than 1,000 websites that were attacked by phishing codes.
The response center also warned that malicious code attacks based on artificial intelligence will be one of the main trends this year. E-commerce, financial and banking systems may also be targeted more often in 2019.
The Vietnam Security Summit 2019, which was held in the middle of this month, heard that none of the 90 ministries and provincial or municipal departments in the country had a cybersafety rating of A, which is the highest grade achievable.
In fact, only 17% of state departments earned a B grade rating. Most – 70% of them – had C-grade protection, while the remaining ones got a D-grade.
Indeed, it was discovered that half of all state agencies do not have anyone in charge of cybersecurity, and they do not outsource that task to a professional firm either, rendering them defenseless during cyber attacks.
