Vietnamese police arrested 80 people after they tested positive for drugs during a raid at a bar in Da Nang last week.

On May 3, around 100 police officers raided Club F3 located on Chi Lang Street in Hai Chau District after midnight and detained three people after they were caught with drugs, VN Express reported.

During the raid, drug tests were conducted and 80 people at the venue were found to have taken drugs. Some 90 bottles of unknown alcohol and seven envelopes said to contain drugs were confiscated.

Officials in Da Nang have been conducting raids on bars, bus stations and karaoke parlors since last month in a crackdown on drug crime. Some 86% of drug addicts in the coastal city have reportedly been users of synthetic drugs.

While Vietnam still uses the death penalty as a punishment for drug crimes, the movement of drugs throughout the country remains prominent.

Over the years Vietnam has become a hub for drug trafficking, given its many ports and proximity to areas like the Golden Triangle in northeastern Myanmar where vast quantities of drugs are produced.
