An Emirati man and woman in Dubai appeared in court on Wednesday charged with confining a Filipino worker inside a car and robbing him.
The incident took place on February 7 in Jumeriah. The Filipino said a car stopped in front of him and the two stepped out of it. They claimed they were police officers and told the Filipino they would take him to the police station for being intoxicated, The Filipino Times reported.
When the Filipino got in their car, the man asked to see his wallet and asked if he was under the influence of alcohol. When the Filipino said no, the man threw the wallet out the window.
The Emirati man then told the Filipino to pick it up. The Filipino realized the man had taken all the money in his wallet and immediately reported the incident at Bur Dubai police station.
On Wednesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the two defendants were charged with illegal confinement and robbery. The Emirati man was also charged with physical assault and impersonating a police officer. The trial continues on June 13.
