About 195 million people travelled during the four-day Labor Day holiday this year, up 13.7% year on year, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Total revenue generated was 117.67 billion yuan (US$17.5 billion) for the period, representing significant growth of 16.1% from a year ago.
This is the first time tourism revenue for the Labor Day holiday surpassed 100 billion yuan. For example, the Yellow Mountain in Anhui province recorded revenue of 15.8 million yuan over the first three days of “golden week,” while Jiuhuashan Scenic Area saw its revenue hit 15.34 million yuan, according to company statements.
Roughly 38% of tourists’ culture and tourism consumption during “golden week” was between 501 yuan to 1,000 yuan, the ministry said. People spent an average 2.25 days on their trips, 9.5% longer than that for the Ching Ming festival holiday.
