As a severe heat wave hit Vietnam, a man in Ha Tinh province died from heat stroke after harvesting a crop.

The man, 50-year-old Vo Ta Tan, was harvesting peanuts with his wife in a field when he collapsed, VN Express reported. He was rushed to hospital where he went into a deep coma. His skin was dry, he showed no pulse and had a high body temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.

Nguyen Ngo Trai, the head of the Emergency Department at Loc Ha District General Hospital, said Vo died before reaching the hospital. Resuscitation attempts were futile. The doctor advised people to not go out between 11 am and 3:30 pm on hot days and to wear masks and full-body clothing if there is a need to head outside.

According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center, the development of a low-pressure area from the west caused the heat wave. Authorities warned that more heat waves would hit the country this summer.
